There are two aspects of documenting your progress that you need to be aware of

  • Appraisal.

This is your yearly review and is done by either the deanery ( If you are a deanery trainee) or your appraiser ( who may be different from your clinical supervisor). This shows that you have made progress over the year and assesses what you need to focus on for the next year. At the end of 5 years of appraisal, you will then have the re-validation which is a more detailed appraisal and sign off by the re-validation officer. This in turn is sent to the GMC who extends your license to practice for 5 years Appraisal and re-validation – please ring 0345 180 1405 EQUINITI re-validation Management system – Explain that you are a member of the CMFT and give your GMC number and email address . they will email you the details

  •  Your first meeting serves as your first appraisal.
  • Your second appraisal will be in the month of your birth (eg if you join 3rd of March 2018, your date of birth is 9th of September
    • your induction will be in March 2018;
    • Your first appraisal will be September 2018
  • Portfolio 

Your portfolio is your document where you store your progress and acheivements. this can be the same as equiniti 360 or a different system. Most trainees use HORUS ( F1/F2), NHS eportfolios (CMT/ ST trainees) or the JRCPTB ( Overseas trainees and non training grades)…

You will have to pay for this and this document can be used as long as you pay the subscription. The current cost is £169 per year ( 2018) which may be covered for overseas trainees by the trust.. please enquire if you can recoup this cost

What do I need to look for when I fill the eportfolio?.. 

You need to demonstrate learning. this is done not by just documenting the case you have seen but how it has affected you personally or professionally. This is very similar to how people make notes to study. However you take it one step further linking it with your emotions or your progression which makes it a more powerful learning event.
